I’ll be honest with you — I’m not the person who wakes up 45 minutes early to do a full face. I’m the person who wants to look like myself, just… slightly more awake. A little more even. Like I slept well and drank water.
That’s what my beauty routine is built around. Minimal products, real results, and enough flexibility that I can be out the door in five minutes or take my time if the mood strikes.
Here’s exactly what I reach for and why.
The Philosophy: Skin But Better
If I had to name my makeup style, it would be skin but better. No heavy coverage, no cakey finish, no spending 20 minutes blending. Just products that even things out, let my skin breathe, and honestly look like I’m not wearing much at all.
I have combination skin with an oily T-zone, which means anything too heavy or too dewy tends to slide right off my nose by noon. So I’ve learned to work with my skin rather than trying to cover it up completely.
My Go-To: BB Cream Days
When I want that seamless, barely-there finish, I reach for a BB cream. It’s become my default for most days — it’s quick, it’s easy, and the results look effortless.
Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream is one I keep coming back to. The coverage is surprisingly buildable for a BB cream — you can use a light layer for an everyday look or add a bit more when you need it. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, and for oily skin it holds up reasonably well throughout the day, especially if you set it with a little powder.
On days when I want something with a bit more of a skin-like finish — almost like skincare that evens things out — I’ll use the TIRTIR Red Cushion Foundation. The cushion format makes application so easy, and the finish has this natural, almost glassy quality that I really love. It’s the one I grab when I want to look put-together without looking like I have makeup on at all.
Both of these are in the same category for me: the I want my skin to look good but effortless category.
When I’m in a Rush: Powder Foundation
Some mornings you just need something fast. No blending brush, no waiting for product to set — just quick, done, out the door. That’s when I use a powder foundation.
I’ve been using the L’Oréal True Match Powder Foundation for a while. It’s easy to find, affordable, and gives a nice natural finish that doesn’t look powdery or flat. For a drugstore option it really does hold its own.
I’ve also tried the Laura Geller Baked & Balanced Foundation, which I have mixed feelings about. The formula is beautiful and the baked finish gives a nice soft glow — but depending on the shade, it can pull a little peachy on me, which isn’t always what I want. It’s one of those products where I’d say: if the shade works for you, you’ll love it. Just make sure you swatch carefully before committing.
The Honest Routine
On most days it looks something like this:
Moisturizer with SPF (always, non-negotiable)
Missha BB Cream or TIRTIR Red Cushion, applied with my fingers or a damp sponge
A little concealer under my eyes if needed
Set with a light dusting of translucent powder on my T-zone
Done
On rush days: moisturizer, L’Oréal True Match powder, out the door.
That’s genuinely it. No contouring, no baking, no multi-step base routine. Just enough to feel like the best version of my face on a regular Tuesday.
Final Thoughts
The beauty products that have stuck around in my rotation are the ones that make me look more like me, not less. A good BB cream or a reliable powder foundation shouldn’t take skill to use — it should just work.
If you’re also a minimal makeup person, I’d start with a BB cream before anything else. Find your shade, apply it with your fingers, and see how your skin looks. You might be surprised how little you actually need.
Have a minimal beauty product you swear by? I’d love to know what’s in your rotation.
